Grower perspectives sought for farm-scale economic modelling of potential carbon farming and natural capital landscapes.

With environmental markets rapidly emerging there are opportunities for genuine transformational change in land-use practices within a drying climate. Wheatbelt NRM are committed to building a foundation of integrity that generates optimum production landscape and nature repair outcomes. The project aims to conduct grower-led research that informs farm business decision-making about whether to participate in environmental market projects, and if so, to determine the most appropriate project and partnership for each farm business.

The pilot ‘Wheatbelt land-use paradigms – navigating new industries in the low carbon and natural capital era’ is supported by the Australian Government through funding from the Climate-Smart Agriculture program under the Natural Heritage Trust.

We are looking for growers who fall into one of the following categories:

  1. Growers who are familiar with environmental markets: If you've heard about carbon farming or biodiversity credits but are unsure of how to get started, we invite your input.

  2. Growers who are interested but uncertain about the best pathway: If you are potentially interested in carbon farming or nature repair but are unsure of which option aligns best with your business, this is a great opportunity to receive tailored guidance.

  3. Growers with experience in emissions accounting or carbon farming: If you have previously been involved with carbon farming, emissions accounting, or the planting of mallees, we would like to hear from you. Your experience can help guide others, and you will have the opportunity to participate in a reference group that will share insights and opinions on future practices.

  4. Growers curious about economic modelling for carbon and nature repair projects: If you’re interested in understanding how the conversion of low-yielding areas on your property to carbon sequestration or nature repair projects could affect your overall landscape performance and financial outcomes, we invite you to participate in economic modelling exercises.
